On May 15, Bloomberg ETF analyst Eric Balchunas wrote that asset management firm Calamos submitted an application for a bitcoin "buffer" ETF, which will seek to provide 100% downside protection against bitcoin while using FLEX options to capture some of the upside. It is not clear whether the application is a spot type or a futures type.
Previously reported, on December 15, 2023, Bloomberg ETF analyst James Seyffart wrote that First Trust filed a Bitcoin "Buffer ETF" application with the Securities Exchange Commission (SEC). It is expected that other entrants to the space will adopt unique and differentiated strategies to provide Bitcoin exposure in the coming weeks.
