据路透社报道，自2021年以来，萨尔瓦多利用特卡帕火山提供的地热能源成功开采了近474枚比特币，使得政府的比特币储备增至5750枚，按当前价格计算总价值近3.54亿美元。萨尔瓦多是全球首个将比特币定为法定货币的国家，此举曾引来国际货币基金组织（IMF）等机构的批评。目前，该国的地热电站产生的102兆瓦电力中，有1.5兆瓦用于比特币挖矿。
