The international monetary fund said in a statement that it would continue talks on the sale of El Salvador's bitcoin project and government e-wallet Chivo, saying "significant progress has been made".
The IMF said El Salvador's government had agreed at the policy level not to proactively increase its BTC holdings and was pushing for the Chivo wallet to exit. However, El Salvador's official bitcoin office said it was still "buying 1 BTC per day" and claimed on December 22 that the position had increased to 7,509. The IMF requires El Salvador to fully comply by the end of 2025 at the latest.
