On December 19th, Northern Data, an AI data center company owned by Tether, sold its bitcoin mining business Peak Mining for up to $200 million to companies controlled by Tether founder Giancarlo Devasini and CEO Paolo Ardoino (Highland Group Mining, 2750418 Alberta ULC, etc.).
Days after the deal was announced, Rumble, a conservative social platform in which Tether holds a nearly 50 per cent stake, agreed to buy Northern Data for about $767 million. Northern Data was raided by the European Union this year amid allegations of large-scale tax fraud, which the company denied and said it was cooperating with.
