According to Cointelegraph, the transaction throughput of the Ethereum network will increase again next month, and developers plan to increase the gas cap of Ethereum from 60 million to 80 million in January.
Christine Kim, vice president of the research team at Galaxy Digital, shared a summary of Monday's all-core developer meeting, in which Nethermind representatives said that developers should be ready to move forward with the gas cap increase after the next BPO hard fork on January 7. However, Barnabas Busa, developer operations engineer at the Ethereum Foundation, pointed out that two client-side optimizations need to be completed before the block gas cap can be raised again, namely partial blob response in the execution layer and maximum blob flag setting in the consensus layer.
All Ethereum Core Developer Conference participants will meet again on January 5 to confirm when the gas cap will be raised after the second BPO hard fork. The first BPO hard fork took place on December 9, increasing blob capacity by 66%; the second hard fork on January 7 is expected to increase by another 66%. Ethereum developers and members of the research community have agreed that the goal is to increase the network's gas cap to 180 million by the end of 2026.
