The UK will investigate the role of cryptocurrencies as part of a broader review of the country's political financing laws, triggered by a bribery case involving a politician from the Reform Party.
Steve Reed, the communities secretary, told the House of Commons on Tuesday that a review of foreign money's interference in British politics would be presented at the end of March and that its findings would feed into election and democracy legislation the government plans to advance next year, following concerns in the UK that democracy is vulnerable to foreign donations and bribery.
Last month, Nathan Gill, a former Welsh leader of the British Reform Party, pleaded guilty to taking bribes while serving as a member of the European Parliament in exchange for speaking out in favor of Russia and was sentenced to 10 and a half years in prison.
