According to the Wall Street Journal, people familiar with the matter said that Trump will interview the current Federal Reserve governor Waller on Wednesday local time on the choice of Federal Reserve chairperson. Trump interviewed former Federal Reserve governor Kevin Walsh last week. Trump said that Walsh and Hassett are currently his two favorite candidates. Since the beginning of this year, Waller has become the main voice within the Federal Reserve to push for interest rate cuts. At the Fed's July meeting to keep interest rates unchanged, Waller voted against and supported interest rate cuts. Mr. Waller, the favourite of economists to lead the Fed, is well regarded on Wall Street for his arguments for rate cuts this year, which have been adopted by Mr. Powell, the current chairperson, and seen as capable of bridging the Fed's widening divisions.
