Elizabeth Warren, the ranking Democrat on the Senate Banking Committee, has called for a national security investigation of some DeFi platforms, focusing on their potential links to Trump's business interests. In her letter to Treasury Secretary Scott Bessant and Attorney General Pam Bundy, Warren named PancakeSwap, saying it could amplify tokens issued by World Liberty Financial Inc., which is linked to Trump, and called for a review of whether there was "improper political influence."
The move comes amid continuing tug of war in the US Senate over legislation to structure crypto markets. Regulatory disagreements over the huge daily trading volumes of DeFi platforms and their lack of identity verification have become a key "red line" for the bill's ability to gain industry support. The bill has been delayed until January due to clear differences between Democrats and Republicans over DeFi regulation and officials' conflicts of interest, and still faces the risk of further delays from budget negotiations.
