The Aave DAO, which manages the Aave protocol, and Aave Labs, the core developer of the Aave family of products, have been at odds over the recently announced distribution of fees for integrating with the decentralized exchange aggregator CoW Swap. The issue was raised by EzR3aL, an anonymous member of the Aave DAO. It pointed out that the fees generated by the exchange of cryptoassets through CoW Swap do not enter the Aave DAO's treasury, but flow into a designated on-chain address.
In fact, these fees ended up going to a private address controlled by Aave Labs. EzR3aL raised several questions about this, including why the DAO was not consulted before the fee flow was adjusted, and argued that the ownership of these fees should belong to the DAO. "At least $200,000 worth of ether per week goes into the pocket of an entity, not AaveDAO," EzR3aL said, adding that this means that the DAO has up to $10 million in potential revenue per year.
Aave Labs responded that the rights and interests related to the front-end components of the website and the application program interface have always been legally owned by it.
