Sacks, the White House artificial intelligence and cryptocurrency adviser, has defended President Trump's move to limit state regulation of artificial intelligence, saying the move is aimed at easing the increasing compliance burden on businesses. Sacks said the administration is working with Congress to develop common standards for regulating the emerging technology, according to the directive Trump signed on Thursday. Currently, development of artificial intelligence models can take place in multiple states, each with its own regulatory standards. "Fifty states work in silos, and this kind of compliance regime is difficult for small businesses and startups to deal with, especially innovators," Sacks said in an interview. "What we need is a single federal or national regulatory framework for artificial intelligence."
