Hollywood director convicted of defrauding Netflix of $11 million to buy cryptocurrency

47 Ronin director Carl Rinsch has been found guilty of defrauding Netflix of $11 million on seven counts, including telegraphic transfer fraud, money laundering and illegal financial transactions. Rinsch was originally commissioned to produce the sci-fi series Conquest, but transferred the additional production funds to a personal account for cryptocurrency speculation and the purchase of luxury goods, including multiple Rolls-Royces, Ferraris, luxury furniture and watches. Netflix has cancelled the project and written off the $55 million investment. Rinsch faces a maximum sentence of 90 years in prison, which will be officially sentenced on April 17, 2026.
