According to Fortune, YouTube has launched a new feature for US creators to receive stablecoin payments via PayPal. May Zabaneh, head of cryptocurrency at PayPal, confirmed that creators can now choose to receive a share of the platform's revenue in the form of PayPal stablecoin PYUSD, which is currently only available to US users.
YouTube was already a customer of PayPal's payment service, which uses it to provide gig and contractor payments to large businesses. At the beginning of the third quarter of this year, PayPal added the ability for its payment recipients to receive payments in PYUSD, and then YouTube decided to offer this option to creators.
Zabaneh said: "The advantage of our build is that YouTube doesn't have to directly touch cryptocurrency, and we help remove that complexity."
