Payments giant Stripe has recently acquired the team of cryptocurrency startup Valora to expand its stablecoin services.
On Wednesday, Valora founder Jackie Bona announced that the team will join Stripe "with a view to fulfilling its mission of expanding the reach of the global financial system". Terms of the deal were not disclosed, including how many Valora employees will join Stripe. Launched in 2021, Valora develops a mobile-first, self-hosted cryptocurrency wallet app specifically for stablecoins on the blockchain. According to Bona, the Stripe acquisition does not appear to include the intellectual property behind Valora's technology, and the app will "return to its original parent company, cLabs, which will continue to be responsible for its future growth".
