On December 9th, according to beincrypto, Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson said that the threat of quantum computing to blockchain has been exaggerated and is not urgent at present. He pointed out that the industry knows how to build quantum-resistant systems, but quantum-safe protocols operate 10 times slower and cost 10 times more, and no network is willing to sacrifice throughput.
Hoskinson said that the industry cannot rush to adopt algorithms that may be deprecated until the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) develops a post-quantum cryptography standard (FIPS203-206). He quoted the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency's (DARPA) Quantum Blockchain Initiative (QBI) as saying that the project is evaluating whether large-scale practical quantum computers can be achieved by 2033, and real quantum pressure is expected to emerge in the 2030s.
