Tether is backing the development of a new type of industrial humanoid robot that will take on dangerous and physically demanding jobs in factories and logistics centers. The stablecoin issuer, along with AMD Ventures, Italy's state-backed artificial intelligence fund, and other investors, raised 70 million euros for Generative Bionics, a new spin-off from the Italian Institute of Technology.
The year-old company is developing "physical artificial intelligence" humanoid robots designed to operate in environments built for humans, handling heavy lifting, handling and repetitive tasks that are difficult for traditional robotic arms.
For Tether, the investment is part of what chief executive Paolo Ardoino described as a "shift to supporting digital and physical infrastructure".
