IBM to acquire Confluent for $9.30 billion to expand artificial intelligence services

IBM Corp. will acquire data-streaming platform Confluent Inc. for about $9.30 billion, making it one of its largest acquisitions to date and a major bet on enterprise software needed for artificial intelligence tools to perform tasks in real time. IBM will make the acquisition at $31 per share, according to a statement released Monday. The enterprise value, including debt, is $11 billion, the statement said. The parties expect the deal to close by mid-2026. IBM will pay Confluent a $453.60 million termination fee if the deal fails or terminates, according to an accompanying regulatory filing.
