Robinhood said in a blog post on Sunday that it would acquire Indonesian brokerage Buana Capital Sekuritas and licensed digital asset trader Pedagang Aset Kripto, marking the retail trading platform's official foray into one of South East Asia's major cryptocurrency hubs.
Indonesia is home to more than 19 million capital markets investors and 17 million cryptocurrency traders, underscoring its attractiveness when it comes to trading stocks and digital assets. Acquiring a brokerage firm can help companies meet regulatory requirements and establish a presence, thus smoothing access to new markets, while acquiring a licensed digital asset trader can accelerate access to cryptocurrency products. Robinhood did not disclose the financial terms of the deal, which is expected to close in the first half of 2026. Pieter Tanuri, the majority shareholder of the two Indonesian companies, will continue to serve as a strategic advisor to Robinhood, the company said.
