Pakistan has said it will move forward with plans to regulate digital assets after talks with a delegation from cryptocurrency exchange Binance. Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Army Chief of Staff Marshal Syed Asim Munir attended the meeting, which was led by Binance CEO Richard Teng.
Bilal Bin Saqib, chairperson of the Pakistan Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority (PVARA), briefed the Binance delegation on the country's regulatory plans. The Prime Minister's Office said Pakistan aims to establish a "transparent and secure" digital asset framework that protects investors while supporting innovation. The talks are part of a broader move to formalize cryptocurrency regulation in Pakistan this year, including the establishment of a dedicated digital asset regulator and clear exchange rules. Saqib also said that Pakistan is working on a sovereign stablecoin and exploring a central bank digital currency (CBDC). According to Chainalysis data, Pakistan is at the top of the global cryptocurrency adoption rankings.
