Minh Phuong Ngoc Vong, a 40-year-old Maryland man, has been sentenced to 15 months in prison and three years of supervised release for helping North Korean agents secretly plant inside US technology companies. Between 2021 and 2024, Mr. Vong used false documents to secure software development positions for at least 13 US companies, which paid him more than $970,000, while the actual work was done remotely by North Korean agents based in China.
Some companies also outsourced Vong's services to U.S. government entities, including the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), which allowed the agents to gain unauthorized access to sensitive government systems.
