According to Cryptopolitan, Russian prosecutors are seeking to seize the property of former Interior Ministry official Georgy Satyukov worth more than 2.10 billion rubles (about 3 billion dollars). Satyukov is accused of accepting bribes from Alexey Ivanov, the administrator of the WEX cryptocurrency exchange, for 2,119.5 bitcoins and 10,016 ethereum.
Satyukov led the "K" unit dedicated to investigating financial fraud and cybercrime from 2019-2021, with luxury assets including 13 apartments, commercial real estate, luxury cars, and $1.30 million worth of luxury goods. WEX Exchange was the successor to BTC-e, and the lack of anti-money laundering measures caused about 450 million dollars of cryptocurrency to disappear.
Satyukov is currently on the run and is wanted internationally. His first trial is scheduled for December 8, 2025. If convicted, his assets will be transferred to the Russian treasury.
