Vitalik.eth posted on the X platform, "I am always pleased to see that everyone has approved these protocol modifications that add hard and fixed rules. Such modifications can not only improve the security of the protocol, but also enhance its future adaptability. 2021: Ethereum improvement proposals EIP-2929 and EIP-3529 (increase the fuel fee for storage read operations and reduce the amount of fee rebate) 2024: Weakening of the function of the destruction contract instruction (with the upgrade of the village) 2025: The upper limit of the fuel fee for a single transaction is set to 16.777216 million
All of the above modifications establish various hard limits on the maximum processing volume of a single block or single transaction, which not only completely avoids multiple Distributed Denial-of-service risks, but also simplifies client side code, and opens up more feasible paths to improve system efficiency.
I anticipate that the following hard rules will need to be implemented in the near future:
Limit the amount of code bytes that can be accessed (short-term solution: increase the cost of calling large contracts; medium-term solution: use a binary tree storage structure with a per-data block billing model)
Limited zero-knowledge proof validator operation cycle of the Ethereum virtual machine (synchronously adjust the relevant fee standard)
Adjust the memory billing method to set a clearer hard cap on the maximum memory consumption of the Ethereum virtual machine
