U.S. Treasury Secretary Bescent may also hold Hassett's current position

According to people familiar with the discussions, Mr. Trump's advisers and allies are discussing a staffing arrangement that would see Mr. Hassett, now Treasury secretary, also become director of the White House National Economic Council if Mr. Trump appoints Mr. Hassett as the next Fed chairperson. Such a move would give Mr. Bescent overall co-ordination of the administration's economic policy and consolidate the oversight of economic affairs at the Treasury and the White House. The arrangements have not been finalised. A White House official said any changes were speculative until the president made a formal announcement. A Treasury representative did not respond to a request for comment.
