OpenAI Foundation to Donate $40.50 million to US Nonprofits

OpenAI's nonprofit foundation announced it will make $40.50 million in donations this year to 208 nonprofits across the U.S. that support local communities, the largest outside philanthropic commitment the artificial intelligence giant has made to date. The donations are intended to "expand opportunities in artificial intelligence" and are used to support work in three areas: artificial intelligence literacy and public understanding, community innovation, and economic opportunity. The donation is OpenAI's largest nonprofit outlay to date, but is still a fraction of the equity value of about $130 billion the foundation owns following its recent corporate restructuring. Last year, the OpenAI Foundation donated $7.50 million, according to a recent tax filing.
