With bitcoin trading well below its recent highs, Eric Jackson, the hedge fund manager and activist investor, is betting that investors will still want to participate in cryptocurrency investments - just not take excessive losses on the way down.
EMJ Capital, owned by Jackson, is preparing to launch EMJX, a cryptocurrency special project fund manager that will invest in bitcoin, ethereum and select niche cryptocurrencies. While EMJX will buy and hold these assets, it plans to differentiate itself from other cryptocurrency fund managers such as Michael Saylor's Strategy (ticker: MSTR. O) through multi-asset allocation and active hedging strategies - with a core goal of participating in the distribution of earnings when prices rise while limiting the risk of a sharp pullback. The core model of cryptocurrency fund managers is to allocate cash reserves to bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies and hold them as strategic assets.
