Sam Bankman-Fried (SBF), the former FTX chief executive, praised Mr. Trump's decision to pardon Juan Orlando Hernández, the former Honduran president who was sentenced to 45 years in prison for drug-related offences, on social media on Tuesday, saying "few people deserve his freedom more".
SBF himself is serving a 25-year sentence for embezzling billions of dollars in client funds on charges including fraud and conspiracy, and hopes to obtain a pardon from Trump. But the analysis pointed out that SBF's donation of $5.20 million to the Biden campaign in 2020 makes it extremely unlikely that it will be pardoned. SBF's appeal is still being heard in the US Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, and a decision is not expected until next year.
