Amazon unveils custom AI chip Trainium3 NVIDIA to face a new round of offensive

Amazon's cloud computing service has announced the public launch of its custom artificial intelligence chip, Trainium3, which the company says is four times faster than previous-generation artificial intelligence chips. The Trainium3, made by AWS 'Annapurna Labs custom chip design business, can reduce the cost of training and operating artificial intelligence models by up to 50 per cent compared with systems using equivalent GPUs. The chips are designed to provide greater computing power to software developers such as Dean Lightsdorf, co-founder and CEO of artificial intelligence video start-up Decart. Mr. Lightsdorf said his company's breakthrough with Trainium3 came after testing chips from several other competitors, including Nvidia processors. The launch of Trainium3 is the latest offensive against Nvidia, which dominates the GPU market, as a growing number of artificial intelligence companies seek to diversify their suppliers by buying chips and other hardware from companies other than Nvidia.
