On December 2nd, according to Politico, the British government is considering banning cryptocurrency for political donations in order to avoid foreign interference in the political contributions system. Previously, the British Reform Party (Reform UK) became the first British political party to accept cryptocurrency donations. The British Reform Party, led by Farage, has recently risen rapidly in the UK polls. It was the first to announce accepting cryptocurrency donations earlier this year as part of its commitment to the UK's "crypto revolution". Now it has actually received the first cryptocurrency donations. Although the ban on cryptocurrency donations was not initially mentioned in the British government's upcoming Elections Bill policy document, according to three people familiar with the matter, officials are currently discussing whether to completely ban the use of cryptocurrency to fund British politicians.
Farage, the acknowledged de facto leader of the UK Reform Party, who himself has long held some crypto assets, has told the cryptocurrency industry that he is "the only hope for the UK crypto industry" and has tried to emulate the broad embrace of cryptocurrencies by his long-time ally, US President Donald Trump.
