SEC Commissioner: Self-custody of cryptocurrencies is a fundamental right

Hester Peirce, commissioner of the Securities Exchange Commission (SEC) and head of the SEC's cryptocurrency working group, reaffirmed the right to self-custody of cryptocurrencies and the privacy of financial transactions. Peirce added that online financial privacy should become the standard. Meanwhile, according to Senator Tim Scott, the Digital Asset Market Structure Clarity Act has been delayed until 2026. The bill is a cryptocurrency market structure bill with provisions such as self-custody, anti-money laundering (AML) regulations, and asset classification.
