US stock markets, which were closed for Thanksgiving on Thursday, will reopen on Friday until 1pm EST (2am Beijing time the next day). With only about three hours of trading left this month, the main US stock indexes are set to end November lower, according to CNBC. By Wednesday's close, the S & P 500 had lost 0.4 per cent, the Dow 0.29 per cent and the Nasdaq 2.15 per cent. Barring a sharp rally in the shortened trading session on Friday, the US stock index is nearing the end of its winning streak: the S & P 500 and Dow are up for six months and the Nasdaq for seven. It would also mark a departure from the historical norm. Since 1950, the S & P 500 has gained an average of 1.8% in November, according to Stock Trader's Almanac. In a US Presidential Election year, the index typically gains 1.6%. But this year is not a typical presidential election year. It is hard to see markets following any historical trajectory in the months and years ahead.
