According to Elobservador, Tether Holdings Ltd. confirmed to Uruguay's Ministry of Labour and Social Security (MTSS) that it will cease operations in Uruguay and lay off 30 of its 38 employees.
Since entering Uruguay, Tether plans to invest $500 million, including three data processing centers in the provinces of Florida and Taqualembo, which are expected to consume 165 trillion watts of electricity, and a wind and solar power park with an installed capacity of 300 trillion watts. Of the total investment, more than $100 million has been secured, and another $50 million is for infrastructure building, which will be owned by the Uruguay Electricity Company (UTE) and the National Internet System.
