Customer data at big US banks such as JPMorgan Chase, Citigroup and Morgan Stanley may have been compromised by a cyber attack on mortgage technology provider SitusAMC, according to market news. The company confirmed on Saturday that a threat actor had stolen data related to several large Financial Institution Groups, including "accounting records, legal agreements" and some customer-related data. The scope, nature and extent of the breach are still under investigation. Vitalik Buterin, co-founder of Ethereum, commented: "Privacy is not a function, it's a hygiene practice." His response echoed a view that has been emphasized this year that privacy is seen as a basic requirement of digital systems rather than an add-on.
