The White House is trying to accelerate the development of US scientific research through the use of artificial intelligence. President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Monday to launch the "Genesis Mission" program, which requires the Department of Energy and other scientific research institutions to actively promote the deployment of artificial intelligence. Michael Kratsios, director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, called it "the largest consolidation of federal scientific research resources since the Apollo program". He said the program is expected to promote scientific breakthroughs in fields such as medicine, energy production and engineering. Energy Secretary Wright stressed that artificial intelligence will be used to analyze the huge data sets held by his 17 national laboratories, and promised to "significantly increase the speed of scientific discovery and innovation". According to the executive order, agencies need to make data sets more suitable for reading by AI tools such as neural networks, and government-held scientific research data and federal computing infrastructure will be open to university researchers, private companies and national security practitioners.
