Gold prices could reach $5,000 an ounce by 2026, according to Bank of America, which believes the driving force behind the recent surge in prices will continue. The team of strategists, led by Michael Widmer, believes gold is currently "overbought" but still "underinvested", supported by unusual US economic policies. Bank of America expects gold prices to average $4,538 an ounce next year, citing tight mineral supplies, low inventories and uneven demand as the main reasons. It also raised its forecast for copper, aluminium, silver and platinum prices in 2026, but said there is still an oversupply of palladium.
