Barclays Research pointed out that there is still uncertainty about the Federal Reserve's interest rate decision next month, but Chairperson Powell is likely to push the FOMC to make a decision to cut interest rates. According to recent speeches, Barclays believes that governors Milan, Bowman and Waller are likely to support interest rate cuts, while regional Fed presidents Musallam and Schmid prefer to keep interest rates unchanged. The latest statements from governors Barr and Jefferson, as well as Goolsby and Collins, show that their attitude is not yet clear, but they are more inclined to maintain the status quo. Governors Cook and Williams rely on data, but appear to be more supportive of interest rate cuts. Barclays said: "This means that before considering Powell's position, there may be six voters who prefer to keep interest rates unchanged and five who prefer to cut interest rates." The bank added that Powell will ultimately dominate the decision because the bar for governors to publicly oppose his position is high. (Jin Ten)
