According to DLNews, Pablo Sabbatella, founder of Web3 audit firm opsek and a member of the Security Alliance (SEAL), said at the Devconnect conference in Buenos Aires that North Korean agents have infiltrated 15-20% of cryptocurrency companies.
Sabbatella estimates that 30-40% of the job applications received by crypto firms come from North Korean agents trying to infiltrate these groups. According to US Treasury data in November, North Korean hackers have stolen more than $3 billion in cryptocurrency through malicious software and social engineering over the past three years, with funds being used for Pyongyang's nuclear weapons program.
North Korean workers typically circumvent international sanctions by seeking out remote workers around the world as proxies, who receive 20 percent of the proceeds and North Korean agents keep 80 percent.
