The Securities Exchange Commission (SEC) Cryptocurrency Task Force has announced that it will host a roundtable on December 15 dedicated to the growing privacy and financial surveillance issues in the cryptocurrency ecosystem. The meeting will invite crypto industry leaders to discuss the challenges facing the industry and possible solutions with SEC officials.
The meeting was held against the backdrop of recent concerns over privacy issues in the crypto industry, including the partial guilty verdict of Tornado Cash developer Roman Storm, the sentencing of the developer of Samourai Wallet, and the sharp increase in the price of privacy coins over the past two months.
Notably, Matthew Galeotti, the acting assistant attorney general for the Criminal Division of the Department of Justice, issued a statement in August saying it would stop prosecuting developers solely for writing open-source code, emphasizing that writing code itself does not constitute a crime when there is no malicious intent.
