Bloomberg quoted people familiar with the matter as saying that a Chinese venture capital company bought part of ByteDance's stake, which is equivalent to ByteDance's valuation of 480 billion US dollars.
Venture capital firm Today Capital is understood to have beaten a number of potential bidders to take a stake from ByteDance's early institutional investor, Bank of China Group. The stake was initially priced at about $200 million, corresponding to ByteDance's valuation of about $360 billion. However, as many as seven institutions participated in the bidding, the price rose rapidly, and Today Capital, led by Chinese venture capital queen Xu Xin, eventually bought the stake for nearly $300 million at a company valuation of nearly $500 billion.
