Cryptocurrency exchange Kraken has received a $200 million strategic investment from renowned market maker Citadel Securities. The deal values the Wyoming-based exchange at $20 billion.
The investment by Citadel Securities, a traditional financial marekt market maker with a history of nearly 25 years, is seen as an important signal that traditional financial giants continue to expand in the digital asset space. The company, founded and led by Ken Griffin, is one of the largest market makers in the world.
Kraken co-CEO Arjun Sethi has previously stressed the exchange's commitment to building a regulatory compliance operating system. The financing will be primarily used to accelerate its global expansion plans and further enhance integration with the traditional financial system.
