Brazilian federal lawmaker Chris óstomo de Moura has introduced a bill that aims to give courts the power to freeze or confiscate the cryptocurrency assets of alleged offenders online. The bill allows judges to take preventive measures, either on their own initiative or at the request of prosecutors, when dealing with fraud crimes, including freezing cryptocurrency wallets and traditional financial assets. The lawmaker said these preventive measures will help protect society and provide a powerful tool in the fight against fraud.
The bill also proposes the establishment of a "National Fraud Victims Compensation Fund" to provide immediate assistance to victims and overcome the slowness of the civil compensation process. In addition, lawmakers are calling for harsher penalties for cyberspace offenders, including preventive detention, and restricting citizens' access to cryptocurrency trading platforms used for criminal activities. The bill is currently under committee review, and it is expected to take some time to complete the final analysis.
