AMINA Bank AG, a Swiss cryptocurrency bank, said it had received regulatory approval in Hong Kong to offer cryptocurrency trading and custody services to institutional clients in the region, while stressing that it was the first international bank to receive such a license.
AMINA Bank said its "Category 1 license upgrade" from Hong Kong's Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) will help it fill a gap in Hong Kong's institutional cryptocurrency market, which has faced limited access to bank-grade cryptocurrency services due to high regulatory compliance standards in the territory.
With this license, AMINA Bank's Hong Kong subsidiary will be able to provide services related to 13 cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, USDC, USDT, and several DeFi tokens.
