In his article, Nick Timiraos, the Fed's mouthpiece, points out that Fed officials face the challenge of how to resolve differences in interest rates. He cites two camps within the Fed, one of which is more concerned about inflation, and this group has recently expanded to include the four voting regional Fed presidents this year, as well as Fed Governor Barr. The other group of officials, including all three Trump-appointed Fed governors, is more concerned about the labor market. They worry that their colleagues will overemphasize the dangers of continued high inflation, leading to unnecessary recession risks, and they believe that high inflation is still far away. Nick said that in any case, the December meeting is likely to have at least three dissenting opinions, three Trump appointees will oppose keeping interest rates unchanged; and if the Federal Reserve cuts interest rates by 25 basis points, there will be at least three votes against it.
