Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino said in an interview that as of now, Tether has provided about $1.50 billion of credit support to commodity traders, including cash and its 1:1 dollar-anchored stablecoin USDt (USDT).
Tether currently focuses on trading traditional commodities such as agricultural products and oil, and plans to further expand its exposure in this area. "We will expand this business significantly," Mr. Adoino said.
The lending is part of Tether's recently launched Trade Finance unit, which typically focuses on providing short-term credit to facilitate the movement of goods through global supply chains. In commodities, trade finance services typically provide traders with the financing they need to purchase, transport and deliver goods.
