Google plans to invest $40 billion in three new data centers in Texas, expanding its presence as rivals such as OpenAI and Anthropic PBC advance multibillion-dollar investment plans in the state. Google said in a statement on Friday that the investment would continue through 2027. One of the data centers will be located in Armstrong County, Texas, and the other two in Haskell County. One of the facilities in Haskell will be co-located with new solar and battery storage facilities to reduce the impact on the grid. "This investment will create thousands of jobs, provide skills training for college students and electrician apprentices, and accelerate energy affordability initiatives across Texas," Sundar Pichai, chief executive of Alphabet, said at an event near Dallas, where the company already has two data centers.
