According to Bloomberg, the European Union's executive arm plans to give the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) new powers to act as the direct regulator of all crypto-asset service providers in the region and to authorize new businesses. The draft, which will be formally announced next month, could upend years of work by national regulators and companies in overseeing the industry. Under the European Union's Crypto Asset Market Regulations, crypto businesses currently need to be authorised in at least one member state.
