"King of Quantification" James Simmons has died at the age of 86

The Simons Foundation announced today that James Harris Simons, co-founder and honorary chairperson of the foundation, passed away in New York on May 10, 2024 at the age of 86. Simons, an award-winning mathematician and quantitative investing legend who turned from academia to the investment world in his 40s, founded Renaissance Technologies, pioneered quantitative trading, and became one of the most profitable investment firms in history. He was known as the "King of Quantification." Over the past 30 + years, his returns have consistently outperformed the market. The most famous fund, Medallion, has returned more than four times as much as the S & P 500. From 1988 to 2023, even after deducting high fees, the fund's average annual return has reached a staggering nearly 40%.
Previously, market news in April 2020 said that Renaissance Technologies would enter the BTC futures market.
