Analysts: The impact of the US government shutdown on the economy is more than the 2018-19 shutdown

A brief analysis by Anderson Economic Group LLC suggests that the economic impact of the longest US government shutdown in history will be significantly greater than that of the 2018-19 shutdown. The full impact is yet to be felt. "We won't see official government statistics for at least a month, but the private sector information we have right now suggests that the 2025 shutdown will be more severe than the last shutdown, which ended in January 2019," said Patrick Anderson, head and chief executive. The company noted that both beer and car sales fell in October. Car sales were down 4 per cent from September, while beer sales were down 6 per cent. Mr. Anderson added: "When beer sales are down, you know it's bad."
