Thai officials announced Wednesday that they have successfully recovered more than $432,000 in stolen digital assets from an Eastern European cybercriminal hiding in Phuket. According to local media reports, Lieutenant General Surapong Premput, who leads Thailand's Cyber Crime Investigation Bureau (CCIB), revealed that Operation 293 successfully seized and returned $320,000 worth of cryptocurrency to Thai victims.
The hacker allegedly deployed malicious software that hacked into the victim's device to steal authentication keys and mnemonic words, which are key access credentials for encrypted accounts.
