Alibaba (BABA. N) is planning an overhaul of its main mobile end AI app in the coming months to bring its functionality closer to OpenAI's ChatGPT, according to people familiar with the matter, a key step in the company's broader efforts to catch up with rivals and eventually monetize from individual users. Alibaba plans to start by updating its existing Tongyi app on iOS and Android and renaming it "Qwen" - a reference to its well-known AI big model - according to people familiar with the matter. The AI capabilities of the agents will then be gradually added to support shopping functions on the platform, including the main site Taobao, in the coming months, the people said. They say the ultimate goal is to try to make Qwen a fully functional AI agent. In addition, Alibaba also plans to eventually launch an overseas version for global expansion. (Jin Ten)
