The three major U.S. stock indexes ended mixed gains and losses. The Dow closed up 0.68% to set a new closing high, the Nasdaq fell 0.26%, and the S & P 500 rose 0.06%. Bank stocks generally rose, Jefferies rose more than 5%, Goldman Sachs rose more than 3%, Citigroup and Morgan Stanley rose more than 2%. Gold stocks strengthened, with Hekla Mining and Harmony Gold rising more than 5%. Large technology stocks were mixed, AMD rose 9%, Oracle fell more than 3%, and Tesla fell more than 2%.
