U.S. President Donald Trump congratulated House Speaker Johnson and Senate Majority Leader Thune in a Veterans Day address on Tuesday after Senate Democrats joined Republicans in voting to pass an appropriations bill to push for an end to the longest government shutdown in U.S. history. "Congratulations to you, Johnson, and all on a tremendous victory," Trump said. "We're restarting our country," he added. "The government shouldn't have shut down." Trump said before Monday's vote that he supported the Senate's appropriations deal that would reopen the government in exchange for a future vote on extending the Affordable Care Subsidy.
